Are You Ready for a Shelter in Place?
|
Oil refinery explosions. Chemical spills from a train derailment. Active shooter situations. Fortunately, these types of emergencies are few and far between but can have dire consequences if not managed appropriately when the unexpected happens.
The oil refinery fire in Philadelphia this morning is a sobering reminder that these events occur, and that the health and safety of our teammates, friends, and loved ones are put at risk when they do. Emergency management officials in Philadelphia urged people east of the fire to shelter in place to avoid the
dangers of potential air contamination and smoke inhalation. Fortunately, that was lifted a few hours later, as air-quality testing confirmed the air was clear and safe to breathe. They will be monitoring air quality throughout the day to ensure it remains safe.
We often prepare for the more expected emergencies, such as an evacuation or fire drill, but how often do you or your team practice what to do if it’s not safe to leave the building? Would you or your staff know what do to if a shelter in place was mandated by your municipality or
local police department?
To our Philadelphia SecureCore properties, please know that SecureCore and RestoreCore are here to help however we can. Whether you
need a refresher on how to find shelter in place information in your SecureCore app or if you need smoke cleaning services, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at 866-498-4038.
